It is truly amazing where wild brook trout live. This little guy and a good number of its buddies reside in the pool just downstream of this bridge. It's a tiny brook, but home to many pint-sized wild brookies. The one pictured was the biggest fish fooled by a small pumpkin head midge.
They are survivors! I know a spot where there is a spring that makes a pool about two feet deep and 4 feet wide. It is in the headwaters of a stream that flows only seasonally, in the spring and winter and if it has rained a lot. But there are always five or six brookies in it, even this August.
